WHAT IS PrEP

Protect yourself from HIV — before any exposure.

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a daily medication that is highly effective at preventing HIV infection. When taken consistently, it reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by around 99%.

In Ireland, PrEP is available free of charge through the HSE, and Nassau Clinic takes care of everything for you, including registration and blood tests, as part of your €150 appointment.

Q1. Who is PrEP suitable for?
PrEP is recommended for people who are HIV-negative and at higher risk of HIV infection — including people with HIV-positive partners, those who don't consistently use condoms, or those with multiple sexual partners. Dr Liam will assess your suitability during your consultation.
Q2. Do I need to be HIV-negative to start PrEP?
Yes. PrEP is only for people who are HIV-negative.
Q3. Is PrEP really free after registration?
Yes. Once you're registered with the HSE PrEP programme — which we handle during your appointment — if your laboratory results are within the healthy range the Doctor will prescribe the PrEP medication which you can collect free of charge from any pharmacy of your choice in Ireland. The only cost is the €150 consultation fee for your medical consultation and laboratory results
Q4. Is my consultation completely confidential?
Absolutely. All consultations at Nassau Clinic are completely confidential. Your information is handled in line with Irish data protection law and medical confidentiality standards.
Q5. What are your opening hours?
We offer appointments on Saturdays and Sundays from 7am to 7pm, and on Thursday from 2pm to 8pm. These hours are designed so you can attend without having to take time off work
